Emergency Communications

A time-honored role for ham operators is to assist emergency officials and relief organizations with local, regional, and long-distance communications when disaster strikes. Cell phones, the Internet, and other communications technologies remain dependent upon fragile infrastructure. Amateur radio stations can communicate point-to-point, over hundreds of miles - even thousands of miles without any other equipment in between. We have a long track record of getting the message through when all other systems fail.
